Melbourne Fashion Week trends – and what this means for Summer/Spring!

One of the most exciting weeks of the year in the world of fashion has come around once again! In its 23rd year of the country’s most premier fashion event of the season, Melbourne Fashion Week, kicked off on 1 September 2017, and I had the absolute pleasure to combine forces with fellow industry professional Kevin Murphy to create looks for Runway 2 and 3 and Martin Grant runway.

Each show had its own distinct hairstyle – showcasing the most notable Spring/Summer hair trends. So here are the looks to keep an eye out for and even recreate for your Spring Racing Carnival events!

Runway 2 & 3

Kevin Murphy and myself worked with a talented team of stylists created a soft, textured hairdo with light waves. With a relaxed effect, this look was styled with soft curls to add body – but also giving it that effortless appeal. Using Kevin Murphy products to add texture, the look was created using a soft approach. It can be recreated with your blow dryer and texturising products.

Martin Grant Runway

In contrast, the Martin Grant runway showcased a slick back style. The fresh, bold style was created with freshly cleansed hair, rather than wet looking or grungy (nor was it soaked in oil!). It was important to keep with natural freshly cleansed hair, but not freshly blow-dried. The silhouette was ’90s inspired with a great bend in the silhouette to add shape and texture.

Tips to remember for Spring Racing hair

The looks from both runways can be beautifully paired with a fascinator, and is a perfect day to night style that you can easily create.

My top (simple!) tip: remember to do your hair!

It means that you shouldn’t limit yourself to pulling hair back and putting on a hat or fascinator – as it is important to balance out your fascinator with your hair. From bouncy blowouts to polished slicked back styles, hair styling is a definite must!

There are so many options these days too, which means you are not limited to a fascinator. One beautiful option (that I just adore) is those stylish clips and decorative hair ties which can be statement pieces by themselves, or alongside your hate or fascinator.

We are opening for Melbourne Cup Day and have early appointments available for all major race days during the spring Carnival. All appointments for the races will receive a free styling product. Call the salon to book now.
